Vacationing Dad Dies Days After Complaining Of Swollen Tonsils

Mark Bramley, 34

A 34-year-old father died after suffering from complications from tonsillitis while on vacation in Amsterdam. Mark Bramley came down with a sore throat during his three-day vacation but did not go to the doctor. Instead, he spent most of his trip in bed taking painkillers.

When he returned to his home in the United Kingdom, Bramley collapsed on his kitchen floor. His fiancée, Charley Miller, attempted to revive him using CPR while she waited for paramedics to arrive. Bramley was rushed to the hospital but doctors were unable to save him and he was removed from life support the following day.

While physicians have not determined Bramley's exact cause of death, Miller believes he had tonsillitis and the swelling in his throat "stopped the oxygen, and he could not breathe."

“Men are very stubborn and don't want to go to the doctors," Miller told Nottinghamshire Live. "It just goes to show that any little thing should be looked into. He probably thought it would get better. He was taking paracetamol, but he did not expect to die.”

She told the news outlet that Bramley "suffers [from] a bad throat a lot, but the doctors would not take out his tonsils."

The couple has an 11-month-old daughter, Gracie Rae, who will turn one on May 17. Friends of the family created a JustGiving page to help raise money to support the young girl. They surpassed their goal of £500 and have raised over £2,200 for the family.
