The man accused of slapping a reporter's backside while she was broadcasting live in Savannah, Georgia last week, turned himself in to authorities on Friday and was been charged with sexual battery, WSAV reported.

Thomas Callaway, 43, was arrested by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office and later released on a $1,300 bond, the report states. Callaway allegedly slapped WSAV reporter Alex Bozarjian on the buttocks while she was in the middle of a live broadcast covering the Enmarkert Savannah Bridge run. The incident was caught on camera, with Bozarjian pausing for a moment after she absorbs what had just happened to her.

Bozarjian filed a sexual battery complaint against Callaway with the Savannah Police Department, describing the smack as a "smack and grab" and that "he also grabbed her buttocks in the same motion. She stated she felt a sharp sting after the smack and advised it caused her to pause during the broadcast," the report states.

"To the man who smacked my butt on live TV this morning: You violated, objectified, and embarrassed me. Bozarjian tweeted shortly after the incident. "No woman should EVER have to put up with this at work or anywhere!! Do better."

In a brief statement provided to Bozarjian's employer, WSAV, Bozarjian's lawyer, Gloria Allred said "Alex is looking forward to justice in this case."

In an interview with WSAV, Callaway said the incident never should have happened.

"It was an awful act and an awful mistake," Callaway said. "I am not that person that people are portraying me as. I make mistakes, I’m not perfect and I’m asking for forgiveness and to accept my apology."

Callaway said he'd become caught up in the moment and regrets how attention has turned to his actions and is no longer focused on the event itself. Callaway has been banned from participating in future events by the Savannah Sports Council, a decision which he says he accepts.
