Alice Cooper: "I Almost Died Doing One of My Stunts!"

Alice Cooper recalls a stunt gone wrong that nearly left him dead.

Alice Cooper is pretty well known for his jarring stunts during his live concerts.

In a new interview, he says one of his risky stunts nearly killed him. He explains how he always wants to shock his audience, but there was an instance where it could’ve gone too far.

Cooper tells “Entertainment Weekly” that the hanging stunt he frequently performs at shows nearly took his life almost 30 years ago.

He explains that the noose he used would sit above his neck and was supported by piano wire. However he never thought about switching out that piano wire, night after night, until the night it snapped.

"The wire snaps. I could hear the rope hit my chin and in an instant I flipped my head back,” Cooper recalls. “That must’ve been a fraction of a second because if it caught my chin it would have been a different result. It went over my neck and gave me a pretty good burn. I went down to the floor and pretty much blacked out.”

Cooper can still be seen performing the stunt at 70-years-old during his shows and, yes, he frequently changes the piano wire and uses a stronger version of it, as well.

You can next catch him on tour with Hollywood Vampires this summer.
