One thing that first-time visitors to South Korea are learning as they experience the Winter Olympics is that the food of the region is full of interesting flavors. For those cruising around PyeongChang, here’s a sampling of the vittles they’ve been digging into:
- Dangling Honey Squid Legs – Do squid even have legs? Taste good, but they’ll stink up your hotel room.
- Fish & Meat Mixed On A Stick – Nuke ‘em for a minute, and your fish/sausage goodness is ready to devour.
- Long Parka Bread – It’s a little paper guy, with a bread parka around him. What’s inside the parka, you ask? Cream and corn!
- Mac & Cheese Sandwich – So simple and obvious, but so amazing.
- Noodles With No Name – Noodles and dumplings are everywhere – just be ready for the spice.
- Red Bean-Filled Rice Donuts – Like a traditional red bean bun, but extra sugary.
- Sea Breeze Mugwort Bread – Mugwort isn’t something from “Harry Potter” land. It’s an herb used in pastries and teas.
- Strawberry Popcorn – Just saying it sounds like some kind of jam band, but it’s supposed to taste awesome.
- Stud Chocolates – Their chocolate bars have young South Korean heartthrobs pictured on them. Maybe they’ll melt in your mouth, too?
- Tuna Mayonnaise Flavored Chips – Every chip aisle has them…also available in squid and octopus.
- Taco Sandwich – Find it at a deli. It’s bread with some chili and cheese squished in between.
Or, just pack a few boxes of Cliff Bars, crawl into a corner, and hide. Bon Appetit!
