Massive Sink Hole Swallows Illinois Soccer Field

A massive sinkhole, around 100 feet wide and 30 feet deep, suddenly appeared at Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Illinois, swallowing bleachers, a light pole, and a significant portion of the soccer fields. The dramatic incident was reportedly caused by the collapse of an underground mine, prompting the immediate closure of the park and cancellation of all activities.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the field was unoccupied at the time of the collapse. Local authorities, including Mayor David Goins, are now working with mine officials, geologists, and engineers to investigate the cause, assess the damage, and develop a plan for repairs.
