On this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and their producers Dan and Joelle talk about a very sexual episode of Scrubs season five, “My Personal Hell,” which features Zach’s character J.D. lotioning up his ex’s new boyfriend, Donald’s character Turk crying on a bathroom floor, the Janitor trying very hard to kill J.D., and a special extraction device for Turk that they’re positive doesn’t exist in real life. (Turns out it does, as their Google search leads them to some very suggestive farm equipment.) Plus, the Internet trend of “mukbang,” the future of OnlyFans, the advent of bulletproof fashion, lots of love for Dungeons & Dragons, and much more.
The interpersonal feud between J.D. and the Janitor has been a feature of Scrubs plotlines since the very beginning, but this episode seems to have stepped up their enmity to dangerous levels. The Janitor, pretending to be Turk, lures J.D. out of the hospital in the hopes of dropping a computer monitor on his head. “He’s like Wile E. Coyote!” Zach says. “He was going to smash your head in!…. That’s murder,” Donald agrees. Later, J.D. "pulls a full The Shining" and leaves the Janitor stuck in a walk-in freezer, holding a hammer. “He was going to meet me in there and kill me with the hammer!” Zach exclaims, and Donald adds, “He was going to f**king bash your skull like Harrison Ford in Presumed Innocent!”
But it’s never all Scrubs talk between these real friends. Zach “had a lot of jazz cabbage” and tuned into Dan’s Twitch stream and learned about the Internet trend “mukbang,” which is when you watch someone else eat food. Sounds dirty (and probably is, for some), though Joelle is quick to point out that for many users, they’ll eat at the same time, as if they’re having dinner with someone. They also get into the proper way to wear a fanny pack (“Like a Chewbacca strap,” Donald says), whether or not iHeartRadio will let them manage a sex work-friendly OnlyFans replacement service (“I don’t know if that’s in our contract,” Zach laughs), and whether or not just anyone can wear a bulletproof vest. Then Doug calls in to talk musical theatre and D&D, and the guys give away a Hyundai to a hard-working single mom. It’s another hilarious and touching episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends – give it a listen for a nice break from your daily grind.
