Cordova Dragway, Cordova, IL., has always been known for its World Series of Drag Racing and holds a special place in the history books. Over the years, the World Series of Drag Racing has been the event known for incredible performance and racing. It’s not a secret that the new team has been working diligently to secure the best talent for the 2022 O’Reilly Auto Parts World Series of Drag Racing. We are excited to provide some of those details!
The Friday, August 26, 2022, ‘Night of Thrills’ will be one of the best Friday evening programs in modern times. The Chicago Wise Guys Pro-Mods will make their World Series debut with two qualifying sessions, plus nitro Funny Cars of John Lawson, Pete Dove, the ‘American Way’ of Scott Haas and ‘Buzzy’s Nitro Bomber’ driven by Mark McElwee will be in action. Headlining the evenings activities will be a special match race of former IHRA World Champion Bruce Litton in his Top Fuel dragster as he takes on Summer Nationals Funny Car winner, Marc White driving Tom and Sue Motry’s Drastic Plastic. Of course, the World Series wouldn’t be what it is without fire breathing jet funny cars and dragsters that include multi-time IHRA World Champion Elaine Larsen. This is only a partial list of entries and racing on Friday evening as some of it we’re gonna keep secret!
The World Series ‘Granddaddy of them all’ Pro-Finale on Saturday, August 27, 2022, will easily be known as the best World Series show in nearly a decade. Nitro Top Fuel Dragsters and NHRA Funny Cars will join the event as Krista ‘the Greekette’ Baldwin (granddaughter of the legendary Chris ‘the Greek’ Karamesines) will take on IHRA champ Bruce Litton in a Top Fuel match race. In Nitro Funny Car, Tim Wilkerson, Dan Wilkerson, Jack Wyatt and Dale Creasy Jr. will match up in round #1 along with Dove, Lawson, Haas, McElwee and White funny cars to qualify and then set the pairing for the round #2 action. Plus, it’s a battle featuring the world’s quickest Nitro Altered (the Richard Hartman driven Wilkerson Summit Racing Equipment entry) against the world’s quickest Nitro Front Engine Dragster of Chuck Baird in his ‘Wildside’ entry. The Pro-mods will be into head-to-head eliminations, the Jets will all be back in action, gassers and special exhibitions also be included, plus we’ll have more………..
The World Series sportsman racers will be in action starting Friday morning with special elimination races on both Friday and Saturday and the World Series Sportsman Finale (all sportsman race day) on Sunday, August 28.
