Here’s a question most people never planned to think about, until the internet did it for you.
Do you face the showerhead?
Or turn your back to it?
A TikTok kicked off a debate by calling one option the “natural” way. That sent people straight to the comments, and eventually pulled doctors into the conversation.
Short answer: there is no right way.
One doctor explained why people have strong opinions, even if they never realized it. Your face is packed with nerve endings. Hot water and strong pressure hitting it directly can feel like a lot, especially if you are tired or stressed.
Turning your back to the spray can feel calmer and more controlled. Less feedback. More relaxing.
But there is a catch on both sides.
Facing forward too long can dry out your face and irritate your eyes.
Facing away too long can leave soap or hair products sitting on your skin, especially your face and chest. That can also cause irritation.
The best advice? Move around. Switch it up. Let the water hit different spots.
Which, judging by social media, is what most people are already doing.
Some comments were honest.
Some were confused.
Some were very specific.
One person said they thought facing the showerhead was something only done in movies. Another learned that her husband showers sideways and did not know what to do with that information.
And more than one person asked the obvious question: are we not rotating?
Plenty of people say they are in there spinning like a rotisserie chicken, and honestly, that might be the most accurate answer.
