A specialty food store in Wisconsin is taking the ants on a log snack to a whole new level!
All Things Jerky which has three locations in the Badger State, wowed many Wisconsinites at a recent state fair with an offering at their booth known as ants on a stick.
The “stick” is actually a pretzel rod, but the ants are real and stuck to the pretzel thanks to a coating of marshmallow fluff.
According to a video shared by Food InsiderOpens, the pretzel is coated in fluff and rolled in a pile of black and brown ants before being served to customers. “Ants have a tart or sour taste. Some people taste that right away, some people don’t,” owner Jessica Jerky told the outlet. “I think it’s just all a matter of taste buds, but that’s why we put it on the stick with the marshmallow fluff, so it’s sweet, salty and crunchy.”
