Student Hunger Drive Is Going On Now

The Student Hunger Drive begins on Monday, October 3rd with a kickoff celebration at River Bend Foodbank. Loading Day and the Finale Rally are on Thursday, November 10th. Students will be holding a variety of activities to raise food and funds for the Student Hunger Drive. These include school assemblies, scavenger hunts, theme days, and fill-the-truck events just to name a few!

All the participating high schools accept food and monetary donations. Please contact your local high school about where to drop off donations. Online Donations can be made to a school, directly through River Bend Food Bank’s new “virtual food drive www.riverbendfoodbank.org/shd2022

The Student Hunger Drive is a six-week, friendly competition between area high schools to work together to address a significant community need - hunger. Students collect food items through school events, challenges, and activities to meet their pre-determined goal (pounds of food raised). In addition to collecting food & funds to support people experiencing hunger, the Student Hunger Drive provides students the opportunity to develop organizational and life skills as they work together to accomplish a common goal. The SHD has instilled philanthropy, taught leadership skills and encouraged volunteerism in high school students for over thirtyfive years. Where does the food go? All food collected from the Student Hunger Drive is distributed through River Bend Food Bank, located in Davenport, IA, to over 400 partner agencies across 23 counties in Iowa and Illinois. The agencies - food pantries and meal sites - provide food to the nearly 120,000 people facing hunger in our 23-county service area.
