This is the biggest week for fantasy football drafts. Most of us are seasoned veterans, but there are always some newbies coming into the game who might not have a clue as to what they’re doing. For those people, and the old heads who might need a refresher, we have these tips to help to make your draft a rousing success.
- Stay Informed – Read the news and stay in the loop on who’s hurt, suspended, holding out, has legal trouble, or any other factors that might hinder a player from contributing to your success
- Know The Settings – Educate yourself on how the league works – namely how the draft will work, the positions you’ll need to field, how points will be scored, if it’s a “keeper” or “dynasty” league, and so on. Find someone you trust in the league to answer questions because you don’t want to ask the one person who’ll completely torpedo you for their own advantage…and those a-holes do exist
- Don’t Get QB Excited – Yeah, there are some big names out there, but names aren’t everything in fantasy. Running backs and wide receivers are going to serve you much more effectively. You can wait until the fifth or sixth round and still find a solid option at QB
- Fantasy Vs Reality – Just because a team has won a Super Bowl or two in recent years doesn’t make all of the players on their roster instant winners for you. You’re looking at weekly stats, not rings, and players that get regular beat-downs, but still score in garbage time, are just as valuable
- Manage Risk – Using a few late picks to shoot for the stars on a potential sleeper pick isn’t a horrible move, but you need to offset those picks with solid, consistent, and smart picks
And finally...whatever Mark Manuel does, do the opposite!!
